Villagrán García, José
Born Sept. 22, 1901, in Mexico City. Mexican architect. In 1923, Villágran García was graduated from the National School of Architecture in Mexico City. In 1924 he became a professor there. He is the founder of Mexican functionalism. Villagran Garcia’s buildings in Mexico (Institute of Hygiene, 1925-26, Mexican National Bank, 1950, and the National School of Architecture, 1953) are distinguished by their sharp, vivid expressiveness.
