Vily
fantastic female creatures in the ancient folk beliefs and folk poetry of the Southern Slavs (among the western Bulgarians, known as samovily and among the eastern Bulgarians assamodivy). Distinctions were made between vily of the forests, mountains, water, and air. The image of the vila is somewhat analogous to the Eastern Slavic water nymph (rusalka).
