Vinson, Frederick M. (Moore) (1890–1953) Supreme Court chief justice; born in Louisa, Ky. He served in the U.S. House of Representatives (Dem., Ky.; 1923–29, 1931–38) and was appointed to the U.S. Court of Appeals (1938). He directed the Office of Economic Stabilization (1943–45) and was secretary of the treasury (1945–46) before President Truman named him chief justice of the U.S. Supreme Court (1946–53). |
