Virtual PC

Virtual PC
(1) (virtual PC) A PC that runs in a virtualized environment that hosts different operating systems, each with its own applications. See virtual machine.

(2) (Virtual PC) Virtual machine software from Microsoft that enables multiple Windows and DOS operating systems to run simultaneously in the same machine. Switched to a free product in 2006, Virtual PC is Microsoft's virtualization solution for desktop PCs, whereas Virtual Server and Hyper-V were designed for servers (see Microsoft Virtual Server and Hyper-V). Virtual PC was developed by Connectix, which Microsoft acquired in 2003. See Windows XP Mode and Virtual PC for Mac.

Tokyo, Sept 29, 2009 - (JCN Newswire) - NEC Corporation today announced the beginning of construction of one of Japan's largest virtual PC thin client systems as part of strengthening information security and reducing total cost of ownership (TCO) for Tokio Marine & Nichido Fire Insurance Co.
While it is true that PCs can do this with Microsoft's Virtual PC (and other tools), Microsoft is not aiming Virtual PC at the enterprise VDI market, with all the support tools of a one-to-many infrastructure.
Due to the NEC resellers' request and market demand in the region, the second session of the certification training focused on two important NEC business solutions: Virtual PC Centre (VPCC) and Fault Tolerant Servers.
