virtual phone number

Also found in: Wikipedia 0.01 sec.
virtual phone number
A telephone number outside of the physical area code you reside in. Provided by telephone carriers and VoIP providers, it allows callers to make local calls from that area code to your phone. For example, if you live in Atlanta and have a virtual phone number with a San Francisco area code, anyone calling from San Francisco is making a local call. See SIP provider.
