A residual remnant of the pipe or throat of a volcano that was filled with solidified lava after its final eruption.

a vent ripped open below what is now central Arizona, pushing up molten rock with irresistible force through a series of volcanic plugs.
Rock chips samples were collected from the red conglomerate located just south of the Hayes Mine and just west of the volcanic plug.
The caldera is more than eight square kilometers in area and is composed of a sequence of intermediate volcanic plugs and flows surrounded and overlain by volcaniclastic breccias and conglomeratic sediments that include sandy, silty, and calcareous interbeds.
