voltage doubler [′vōl·tij ‚dəb·lər] (electronics) A transformerless rectifier circuit that gives approximately double the output voltage of a conventional half-wave vacuum-tube rectifier by charging a capacitor during the normally wasted half-cycle and discharging it in series with the output voltage during the next half-cycle. IXYS Corporation (NASDAQ: SYXI) disclosed today that its Micronix division has released the MX846, a 50 mA regulated output efficient voltage doubler designed for localized voltage step-up applications. The IRPLCFL4 reference design incorporates a voltage doubler at the front end in all modes of operation, providing a fixed 300VDC bus. Low-voltage operation reduces the need for voltage doubler circuitry, and low quiescent current (Iq) of 100 microamps (uA) further lessens demand on the battery. |
