Vornoskov, Vasilii Petrovich
Born Feb. 29 (Mar. 12), 1876, in the village of Kudrino, in present-day Moscow Oblast; died Feb. 4, 1940, in Moscow. He was a master in the Abramtsevo-Kudrino style of wood carving. From 1887 to 1890 he studied in the workshop of E. D. Polenova in Abramtsevo. Beginning in 1892 he worked independently on commissions. His genre and ornamental works were carvings in which large-scale rich plant designs were combined with images of men and animals. Vornoskov also created models of carved architectural ornamentation (the portal Defense of the Frontiers of the USSR, jointly with his sons in 1937, at the Zagorsk Historical Art Museum and Preserve). He left a school of followers which includes his sons. REFERENCEVishnevskaia, V. M. Russkaia narodnaia rez’ba po derevu. Moscow, 1961. Pages 15-20.Want to thank TFD for its existence?
