Contingent on the results of a feasibility study, expected to commence in 1996, development of the Vorontsovka deposit could begin as early as 1998 with surface mining operations commencing in 1999.
Located on the eastern flank of the Ural Mountains in relatively flat terrain in the Sverdlovsk Oblast, the Vorontsovka deposit is near the cities of Krasnoturinsk, Serov, and Karpinsk.
The operating entity for Vorontsovka will be Gold of the Northern Urals Joint Stock Company.
They include: Urals Gold-Platinum Company, the Bogoslovskiy Aluminum Smelter, which operates in Krasnoturinsk, and two smaller groups: a placer miner and the geologic group that discovered the Vorontsovka deposit.
