Established: Authorized on May 25, 1993; dedicated on May 29, 2004.
Location: On 17th Street, between Constitution and Independence avenues, flanked by the Washington Monument to the east and the Lincoln Memorial to the west.
Activities: The memorial is operated by the National Park Service and is open to visitors 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
Special Features: The World War II Memorial honors the 16 million Americans who served during World War II, along with the millions who supported them on the home front. A wall contains 4,000 gold stars symbolizing the more than 400,000 Americans who died during the war.
