Wadia, Drashaw Nosherwan 

Born Oct. 25, 1883, in Surat; died June 15, 1969, in New Delhi. Indian geologist.

Wadia graduated from the University of Bombay in 1906. During 1907-20 he was professor of geology in Kashmir; later he worked in the state geological institutions of India and Ceylon. He was president of a number of geological scientific societies in India. Wadia conducted research on the axial zone of the southern slope and foothills of the Himalayas, as well as on the Salt Range. Essentially, he established their stratigraphy and tectonics with greater precision. Wadia published a major work on the geology of India. Its most valuable sections are devoted to the geological structure of the Himalayan zone.
