| Because the MALT of Waldeyer's ring is the first line of mucosal defense against invading pathogens, it is plausible that H pylori induces a proinflammatory reaction that is both local and systemic. There are several case reports of nasopharyngeal obstruction due to EBV associated to hyperplasia of the Waldeyer's ring. The fact that both malignancy-positive patients in our study were older than 50 years when they presented is consistent with previous findings that primary lymphoma of Waldeyer's ring is a disease mainly of the older age group. |
