Walker, Thomas (1715–94) physician, explorer, legislator; born in King and Queen County, Va. After practicing as a doctor he became interested in seeking out new land for speculation. He served numerous terms in the Virginia House of Burgesses and represented Virginia at the Fort Stanwix Indian treaty (1768). He was a guardian for Thomas Jefferson and, as a member of the Virginia Committee of Safety (1776), took an active role in advancing the American Revolution.
