Walkman

A brand of portable audio players and recorders from Sony. In 1979, Sony introduced the first Walkman, an audio cassette device that created a revolution. The tape-based Walkman was the progenitor of the portable CD player and the MP3 player. See audio cassette and Stereobelt.
