On the central southern border of MS, west of Hattiesburg; organized Mar 16, 1910 from Marion and Pike counties. Name Origin: For Gen. Edward Cary Walthall (1831-98), Confederate army officer and U.S. senator from MS (1885-86; 1895-98)
