On southeastern border of WI, southwest of Milwaukee; organized Dec 7, 1836 (prior to statehood) from a territorial county. Name Origin: For Col. Reuben Hyde Walworth (1788-1867), officer in the War of 1812, jurist, and U.S. representative from NY (1821-23); unconfirmed nominee to the U.S. Supreme Court (1844).

Area (sq mi): 576.50 (land 555.31; water 21.19). Pop per sq mi: 179.80.
Pop 2005: 99,844. State rank: 14. Pop change: 2000-20005 6.50%; 1990-2000 25.00%. Pop 2000: 93,759 (White 91.10%; Black or African American 0.80%; Hispanic or Latino 6.50%; Asian 0.70%; Other 3.90%). Foreign born: 5.40%. Median age: 35.10.
