a genus of marsupials. The length of the body is up to 22 cm, and the length of the tail is up to 23 cm. The coloration above is gray; there are black markings on the sides of the head. There are two species, distributed in the forests of Australia. The arboreal animals, known as broad-footed pouch mice, are active at twilight and at night. They feed on small vertebrates and insects. The species Phascogale tapoatafa, an animal the size of a squirrel, resembles a small mustelid in its feeding habits.
