In southeastern GA, west of Brunswick; organized Dec 15, 1824 from Appling County. Name Origin: For Nicholas Ware (1769-1824), GA legislator, mayor of Augusta (1819-21), and U.S. senator (1821-24).

Area (sq mi): 906.31 (land 902.29; water 4.02). Pop per sq mi: 38.20.
