Warner, Olin Levi, 1844–96, American sculptor, b. Suffield, Conn. He studied art in Paris, working for a time as an assistant to J.-B. Carpeaux Carpeaux, Jean-Baptiste (zhäN-bätēst` kärpō`), 1827–75, French sculptor and painter. ..... Click the link for more information. . He served in the Franco-Prussian War (1870) and returned to the United States in 1892, setting up a studio in New York City. Warner's realistic sculptures became known to a wide public toward the end of his relatively brief life. Among his works are a number of portrait busts and a figure of Diana in the collection of the Metropolitan Museum of Art. His public works include a statue of Connecticut governor Buckingham at the state capitol, Hartford; figures of William Lloyd Garrison and Gen. Charles Devens in Boston; and bronze doors at the Library of Congress, Washington, D.C. How to thank TFD for its existence?
