Watford, city (1991 pop. 109,503) and district, Hertfordshire, SE England. Watford is mainly residential with many kinds of shops. The city is renowned for its publishing and produces many of England's periodicals. Other industries are engineering, brewing, and chemical manufacture. A technical college and a teacher-training school are in Watford.
