Wayne Fitzgerrell State Recreation Area Location: 6 miles north of Benton, just off I-57. Facilities: 243 modern campsites with electrical hookups, 40 tent sites, 3 shower buildings, resort lodge with 105 rooms and cabins, conference center, restaurant, swimming pool, tennis court, convenience store, gift shop, pontoon boat and wave runner rentals, picnic areas (é), shelters, playgrounds, restrooms, hiking/biking trail (4 miles), equestrian trail (9 miles), boat ramps, courtesy dock. Activities: Camping, boating, fishing, swimming, hiking, horseback riding, bicycling, hunting, tennis. Special Features: Park overlooks the US Army Corps of Engineers' 19,000-acre Rend Lake, and about 75% of the park's boundary is shoreline, providing excellent bankfishing opportunities. The park is noted for its extensive sporting dog field trial programs, hosting more than 25 field-trial events annually in which some of the best-trained retrievers, beagles, and bird dogs compete for regional and national honors.
