Weidenmann, Jacob (1829–93) landscape architect; born in Winterthur, Switzerland. An engineer and architect in Panama and South America, he immigrated to the U.S.A. in 1861 to be superintendent of parks in Hartford, Conn., where he designed the Cedar Hill Cemetery. In 1870 he joined Frederick Olmsted in New York, designing the Schuykill Reservoir in Philadelphia among other projects. Publishing Modern Cemeteries in 1888, he advocated park-like grounds minimizing monuments. |
