Weirton, city (1990 pop. 22,124), Brooke and Hancock counties, NW W.Va., in the industrial Northern Panhandle, on the Ohio River; settled 1790s, inc. 1947. Its industries include coal mining and the manufacture of steel, chemicals, cans, and bottles. Nearby are a race track and a state park.

Finally, Weir left an everlasting imprint in history by creating the city of Weirton, West Virginia, where he employed tens of thousands of steel workers and their descendants for generations. |
