Weissenfels (vīs`ənfĕls), city (1994 pop. 34,816), Saxony-Anhalt, E central Germany, on the Saale River. It is an industrial city and a rail junction. Manufactures include beer, shoes, paper, and metal products. Chartered in the 12th cent., Weissenfels passed to Prussia in 1815.
