Weitz, Paul Joseph 

Born July 25, 1932, in Erie, Pa. US pilot and astronaut; commander in the US Navy.

Weitz received an M.S. in aeronautical engineering at the Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey, Calif., in 1964. He completed a flight training course at Corpus Christi, Tex., in 1956 and was named an astronaut in 1966. From May 25 to June 22, 1973, Weitz flew with C. Conrad and J. Kerwin as a member of the first crew of the Skylab space station, which had been launched on May 14 of that year. During their mission, which lasted 28 days 50 min, Weitz and Conrad performed a space walk that spanned 1 hr 36 min.
