Welch, James (1940–  ) Blackfeet/Gros Ventre writer; born in Browning, Mont. His writing explored both the pride of heritage and the deep sense of loss experienced by many Indians. His books include Winter in the Blood (1974), The Death of Jim Loney (1979), and Fools Crow (1986).
