Cumulatively, the nine students earned more than 45 certifications from the American Welding Society across a variety of trades, processes and procedures, including shielded metal arc welding, gas metal arc welding, flux cored arc welding and tungsten inert gas welding.
This extends to the full-service fabrication process, including mesh welding, robotic welding, resistance welding/spot welding, gas metal arc welding (GMAW), MIG welding, gas tungsten arc welding (GTAW), and TIG welding.
The textbook begins with an introduction to the welding process and the role of welding in industry, then covers oxyacetylene welding, shielded metal arc welding, gas tungsten arc welding, gas metal arc welding, other welding and joining processes, weld evaluation and testing, and welding technology.
Mandal works from his experience teaching courses on specialty welding, particularly that appropriate to shipbuilding, such as sheet metal arc welding, gas metal arc welding, gas tungsten arc welding, submerged arc welding and electro-slag along with single side and multi-electrode welding techniques.
