West Covina, city (1990 pop. 96,086), Los Angeles co., S Calif., in the San Gabriel valley; settled 1905, inc. 1923. Before World War II, West Covina was a small rural community where walnuts, wheat, and livestock were raised. Urban and economic growth occurred after 1945, as the Los Angeles metropolitan area began intense development. | The Northridge Little League baseball standout is just 12 years old but has the look of a high school athlete, pitching a six-hitter with nine strikeouts in an 8-1 victory over West Covina on Saturday in the third round of the Southern California Divisionals at West Garden Grove Little League. Wrapping up the "Fantasy 5 Dream Machine" excitement was James Kitahara from West Covina who won $30,000. The West Covina office of Little, a national architecture and design firm, has named three senior associates: Winnie Bautista and Randy Olaes, senior designers; and Holly Sloane, project accountant. |
