Whitby, town (1991 pop. 61,281), SE Ont., Canada, NE of Toronto, on Lake Ontario. It has a good harbor. The town's manufactures include tires and electronic equipment.
Whitby a fishing port and resort in NE England, in E North Yorkshire at the mouth of the River Esk: an important ecclesiastical centre in Anglo-Saxon times; site of an abbey founded in 656.
