White, Leonard D. (Dupee) (1891–1958) political scientist, historian; born in Acton, Mass. He pioneered higher education in public administration at the University of Chicago (1920–56), himself writing a standard introductory text (1926, several times revised). As U.S. Civil Service Commissioner (1934–37), he developed civil service examinations and training for university graduates.
