White, Robert M. (1923– ) meteorologist; born in Boston, Mass. (brother of Theodore White). As chief of the U.S. Weather Bureau (1963–65), he supported advances in the weather warning system through the use of satellites and computers. He led efforts to save the whales as U.S. Commissioner of the International Whaling Commission (1973–77) and became president of the National Academy of Engineering in 1983.
