On the southeastern border of IL; organized Dec 9, 1815 (prior to statehood) from Gallatin County. Name Origin: For Leonard White, a delegate to the IL Constitutional Convention (1818) and state legislator.

In northeastern GA, northwest of Athens; organized Dec 22, 1857 from Habersham County. Name Origin: Believed to be for David Thomas White (1812-71), supporter of a bill to create the county. Some claim Col. John White, a hero of the American Revolution.

    In December 2005, Kerry Pacer, then 17, was featured on the cover of gay monthly 'The Advocate' for fighting for the right to form a gay-straight club at White County High School in Cleveland, Georgia.
    Fannin County and White County both offer delayed harvest streams.
    Unfortunately, there was a printing error on the white county ballot paper and this ballot paper is not valid and should not be used.
