On the southeastern coast of TX, north of Brownsville; organized 1921 from Cameron and Hidalgo counties plus a 1.4-mile strip of a former Willacy County, which was renamed Kenedy County at the same time that the new county was created. Name Origin: For John G. Willacy (1850-1943), TX legislator (1899-1914)
