Purcell, William

(1880–1965)
Scottish-born American architect who, with partner George Grant Elmslie (1871–1952), helped establish the Prairie School style as applied to the many homes they designed. He had previously worked with Adler and Sullivan on the ornamentation for the Cage Building (1898) and the Carson Pirie Scott Store (1904), both in Chicago.
