Windischgratz, Alfred 

Born May 11, 1787, in Brussels; died Mar. 21, 1862, in Vienna. Prince, Austrian field marshal.

In 1813-14, Windischgratz participated in the war against Napoleonic France. In 1840 he was the commander in chief of the Hapsburg troops in Bohemia; in 1848 he cruelly suppressed the revolutionary uprisings in Prague and Vienna. Until April 1849 he was in command of the Hapsburg campaign to suppress the Hungarian revolution. In 1861 he was appointed a member of the Austrian House of Lords.
