Windows/386

An early version of Windows introduced in 1987. Using the Virtual 8086 Mode of the 386 CPU, it enabled multiple DOS applications to be run simultaneously. It was never very popular, but was the forerunner of the 386 Enhanced Mode in Windows 3.0, which was an outstanding success. See Windows.


(operating system)Windows/386 - A version of Microsoft Windows released in late 1987. Windows/386 was basically the same as its predecessor, Windows/286 (as Windows 2 was renamed), but with the capability to run multiple MS-DOS applications simultaneously in extended memory.
