Eset warns that a wave of malware variants based on this exploit is likely, citing a similar pattern for the Microsoft Windows Metafile exploit that was released in late December 2005. Secure Computing Corporation (NASDAQ:SCUR), the experts in securing connections between people, applications, and networks(TM), today announced that customers using the Sidewinder G2(R) Security Appliance and SmartFilter(R) Web filter are protected from the new forms of the Windows MetaFile (WMF) vulnerability because of Secure Computing's multilayered, defense-in-depth security architecture. In addition to issues patched by Microsoft today, the TippingPoint IPS also provided preemptive protection against the zero day Microsoft vulnerability in Windows Metafile (WMF) on December 28, 2005, nine days in advance of Microsoft patch availability January 5, 2006. |
