Windows command line

Also found in: Wikipedia 0.06 sec.

Windows command line

A function within Windows that executes individual commands typed in one at a time or one after the other if they are grouped in a text file with a .CMD or .BAT extension. Widely used by developers and power users for file management and testing, many commands are identical to the original DOS commands. For example, typing copy *.html d:\x at the command line copies all files in the current folder with an .HTML extension to the X folder in the D drive. Doing the same operation with Windows Explorer requires several mouse clicks to execute.

There are many useful DOS/Windows commands in this Encyclopedia, all of which have a "DOS" prefix. See DOS Copy, DOS Dir and Windows batch file.
