WirelessHD

Also found in: Wikipedia 0.04 sec.

(WIRELESS High Definition) A next-generation wireless technology from the WirelessHD consortium for transmitting uncompressed high-definition video over short distances between TVs, PCs and handheld devices in the unlicensed 60 GHz frequency range.

WirelessHD (WiHD) founders include SiBEAM, LG, NEC, Matsushita (Panasonic), Toshiba and Samsung. In 2007, SiBEAM demonstrated prototypes of WiHD chips using standard CMOS technology and solved the problem with the highly directional nature of WiHD due to its extremely high frequency. If someone walks in the room, SiBEAM's OmniLink60 technology can bounce the signals off another object in the room. The first wireless radios transmit from 2 to 5 Gbps, with 20 Gbps earmarked for future higher-definition standards. See ISM.
