Wlodzimierz Kurylowicz

Kuryłowicz, Włodzimierz 

Born Sep. 26, 1910, in Lwów. Polish microbiologist. Member of the Polish Academy of Sciences (1964). Brother of J. Kuryłowicz.

Kuryłowicz graduated from the medical faculty of the University of Lwów in 1934. He became a professor of microbiology at the University of Warsaw in 1954. From 1958 to 1963 he worked at the Institute of Tuberculosis and the Institute of Antibiotics in Warsaw. He has been director of the Institute of Hygiene since 1963. Kuryłowicz’ principal works have dealt with immuno-chemistry and the organization of production of antibiotics. Kuryłowicz became a foreign member of the Academy of Medical Sciences of the USSR in 1966.
