Wood, Benjamin (1820–1900) journalist; born in Shelbyville, Ky. As editor of the mass-audience New York Daily News (1860–1900), he helped it attract the largest readership of any U.S. paper. He was controversial because of his support for the Confederate cause in the Civil War.
