Wood, Devolson (1832–97) civil engineer, educator, author; born in Smyrna, N.Y. He designed an ore dock in 1866 and invented an air compressor and a steam rock drill. He taught from 1872 to 1897 at Stevens Institute of Technology, Hoboken, N.J. He was the author of works on mechanics, bridge construction, and mathematics. How to thank TFD for its existence?
