While comprehensive historical works such as this must occasionally sacrifice depth for breadth, the brevity of some of the case studies is made bearable by the provision of both a consolidated bibliography and richly annotated lists of works cited. The key to the works cited in Famous Art was the physical presence of the artist--which this project shared--and endurance, which it didn't (Shelley allowed himself to leave the gallery). in other words, the network is a social-construction that is obviously too vast to include in a Works Cited page. |
