Yunus Emre

Born late 13th century; died 1320 or 1321. Turkish Sufi poet.

Yunus Emre wandered through the Black Sea region, spreading Sufism in poems that he sang along with his listeners. Later, Yunus Emre’s poems were written down and collected in a divan. His poems were easily understood by the general masses, since almost their entire vocabulary was Turkic.
