Severodvinsk (syĕ`vĕrŏdvinsk), city (1989 pop. 249,000), NW European Russia, on the Dvina Bay of the White Sea. The main industries are shipbuilding, lumbering, and transshipment. It is a base for a fishing fleet.
Severodvinsk (from 1938 to 1957. Molotovsk), a city (until 1938, a settlement) under oblast jurisdiction in Arkhangel’sk Oblast, RSFSR. Located on the White Sea, at the mouth of the Severnaia Dvina River. Terminus of a railroad branch line from the Obozerskaia-Arkhangel’sk line, 50 km from Arkhangel’sk. Population, 172,000 (1975). Severodvinsk has plants producing road-building machinery and construction materials. It also has a logging and timber distribution establishment, a woodworking combine, a clothing factory, a furniture factory, a milk plant, a meat-processing plant, and a poultry farm.
