Special Features: In the late 1800s, Don Vicente Martinez Ybor came to the Tampa area and built a city that became the "Cigar Capital of the World." From the opening of the first cigar factory in 1886 until the 1930s, Ybor City was a flourishing community, but competition from machines, popularity of cigarettes, and the Depression combined to bring about the decline of the city's cigar industry. The park is dedicated to preserving Ybor City's unique cultural heritage, and the museum traces the history of the city and its cigar-making industry.
