Yeovil (yō`vĭl), town (1991 pop. 36,114), Somerset, SW England, on the Yeo River. It is a market town and a leather-making center. Glove making has been a local specialty since the 16th cent.; helicopters and processed foods are also produced. The Perpendicular Church of St. John (late 14th cent.) is sometimes called the "Lantern of the West." A number of picturesque old houses are in Yeovil. How to thank TFD for its existence?
