Yonge, Charlotte Mary

    0.01 sec.
Yonge, Charlotte Mary (yŭng), 1823–1901, English novelist. Her writing as well as her life was restricted by the rigid High Church tenets of her upbringing. In spite of their religiosity her books were long popular because of the excellence of their characterization and dialogue. The Heir of Redclyffe (1853), a novel, and The Daisy Chain (1856), a book for girls, are best known. She edited the Monthly Packet from 1851, and many of her stories first appeared there.
