Pohang (pô`häng`), city (1995 pop. 508,983), North Gyeongsang (Kyongsang) prov., SE South Korea, on Yeongil (Yongil) Bay of the Sea of Japan (or East Sea). A fishing port and agricultural center, the 1970s brought heavy industry to Pohang, such as iron and steel production and shipbuilding.
Pohang a city in South Korea, located in the province of Kyongsang-pukto, on Yongil Bay. Population, approximately 100,000 (1970). Railroad station. Pohang has a metallurgical combine (constructed in 1973), which has an annual output of 1 million tons of steel; the steel is manufactured from imported raw materials.
