You've Got Mail

Also found in: Acronyms, Wikipedia 0.04 sec.

The audio announcement heard millions of times per day by AOL users. The voice was recorded by Elwood "El" Edwards in 1989 at the suggestion of his wife Karen, who worked in customer service for Quantum Computer Services (before Quantum became AOL). Elwood recorded "Welcome!," "File's Done," "Goodbye" and "You've Got Mail," the latter made famous by the 1998 Warner Bros. movie of that name with Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan. An announcer with a long career in broadcasting and radio, when Edwards meets people for the first time who are unaware of his profession, many swear they have met him before, but cannot place where.

NEW YORK - You've got mail - and now it's free along with music and video.
You've Got Mail is based on Ernst Lubitsch's heartwarming yet candid 1940 movie, The Shop around the Corner, one of the few Hollywood films that really captures the European flavor of their settings, in this case the economically depressed Budapest of the early thirties.
IDC's new study, Worldwide Email Archiving Applications 2005-2009 Forecast and 2004 Vendor Shares: When You Need to Know That You've Got Mail (IDC # 34540) provides vendors and customers with a look at where the market is heading, including how it will be delivered (software or service) and packaged (standalone or integrated).
